NESPAK Commences Multilevel Grade Separation at Shahdara Flyovers Project
The Shahdara flyover project is a major infrastructure project aimed at easing traffic congestion in Lahore, particularly in the Shahdara area. The project involves the construction of several flyovers and underpasses to provide smoother traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters. The National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) Commences Multilevel Grade Separation at Shahdara Flyovers Project. For thus, girders and foundation laying down preparations are being developed by the construction engineering firm.
History of the Shahdara Multilevel Flyovers
The project was Initiated by the Punjab government in 2016 and was completed in 2020 at a cost of approximately PKR 6.5 billion. The project includes the construction of three flyovers, three underpasses, and a pedestrian bridge.
The first flyover connects Shahdara to Babu Sabu interchange on the Lahore Ring Road, while the second and third flyovers connect Shahdara to GT Road and Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, respectively. The underpasses are located at GT Road, Mohafiz Town, and Shahdara Chowk. The pedestrian bridge is located at Shahdara Railway Station.
Latest Development of the Project
The project is the further proceeding after the government of the Punjab in collaboration with the PDWP (Punjab Development Work Party) announced in October, 2022 to start the remaining work at the earliest. The NESPAK has now practically initiated the work progresses with 20 girders paved out of 172 girders. These 20 girders will be laid up on the pillars to complete portion of the flyovers. Further ahead the 172 girders will be prepared in coming weeks.
Project Plan of the Shahdara Multilevel Separation Grade
The project will connect Gujranwala with Lahore via GT Road. The next flyover will patch Niazi Chowk-Batti Chowk with Sheikhupura-Kot Abdul Malik. While the other flyover and ground roads will connect Old Ravi Bridge with Shahdara. The metro bus route will be undisturbed by the project.
