Sindh High Court Directs Construction of Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway to Proceed
In a significant move, the Sindh High Court Directs Construction has issued a directive to the National Highway Authority (NHA) to commence construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway without delay. The court’s decision follows a petition filed by Advocate Khan Muhammad Solangi, who expressed concerns over the prolonged delay in the initiation of the motorway’s construction.
Cause of Delay in Construction
On May 30, 2023, the SHC’s double bench conducted a hearing on the matter. During the proceedings, NHA officials informed the court that both the government and donors had allocated funds for the construction of the motorway. However, they cited the ongoing investigation into the Nowshehro Firoz corruption case as the reason behind the project’s suspension.
Date of Construction Work Initiation
The court ordered the NHA to proceed with the construction of the motorway, emphasizing that the investigation should not hinder its progress. The NHA, in response, assured the court that construction activities would commence on June 30, 2023.
Project Plan
Spanning an impressive length of 156 kilometers, the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway will serve as a six-lane thoroughfare, connecting the cities of Sukkur and Hyderabad in the Sindh province. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs. 25 billion.
Effects on Economic Support
The construction of this motorway holds tremendous potential to bolster economic activity in the region while simultaneously reducing travel time between Sukkur and Hyderabad. By enhancing connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion, this infrastructure endeavor will contribute significantly to regional development.
The SHC’s directive is a momentous development that sets the stage for the expeditious completion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project. As construction activities are set to commence, the government, NHA, and relevant stakeholders must work in tandem to ensure the project’s smooth execution.
Two Cities Connectivity
Once operational, the motorway will facilitate improved transportation of goods and services, resulting in heightened economic growth and development. Moreover, it will enhance connectivity, fostering stronger social and cultural ties between the cities of Sukkur and Hyderabad.
Linking Province For Better
The completion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway will also be a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s transportation infrastructure. It showcases a proactive approach in addressing citizens’ concerns, enabling the efficient movement of people and goods while reducing the burden on existing road networks.
This project holds the potential to attract new real estate, property and industrial investments and business opportunities, stimulating economic growth in the region. As businesses flourish, job opportunities will multiply, enhancing the livelihoods of local communities.
So, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful execution of this vital infrastructure initiative, ultimately benefiting the people of Sukkur and Hyderabad and driving the overall progress of Sindh province.
